Bawdita htaung special greening Project

The project is located about 12 miles (19.31 km) east of Monywa Township, Monywa District, Sagaing Region, Bawdi ta htaung greening project area covers 20520 acres (10125.23 ha) in area and has the peak elevation of 1962 feet598.02 m) above the sea level. Origional forest type of this project area is tropical dry deciduous forest. Soils are very poor having fine sand, stony soils, gravel soils and rocky soils. The tree species naturally grown in the area are, among others,Terminalia oliveri (Than),Tectona hamiltoniana (Dahat), Terminalia alata (Htauk-kyant),Shorea robusta (In-gyin), Acacia Arabica Wild.syn (Subyu), Acacia catechu (Sha), Vachellia leucophloea (Htanaung), Ribes uva-crispa (Ze-phyu), Grewia polygama (Tayaw),Hiptage benghalensis (Bein-new/Helicopter flower), Luffa aegyptiaca (Tha-byut) and etc.
Bawdi ta htaung special greening project is a 5-year project starting from 2019-2020 to 2023-2024 fiscal year. The project planned to plant 33500 trees per year in the first 4-year period of the project and in the last year (the fifth year of the project) will focus on maintenance operations. Along with tree planting, other land restoration/ rehabilitation activities such as conservation remaining natural forests, soil and water conservation and environmental education programs will also be carried out under the project as mentioned in the following table.
